Promoting Floyd’s Book

In 1977, Floyd was discovered and “enjoyed” a burst of fame. Samples of Floyd’s poems, short pieces, and “bizarre” drawings were published by the University of Colorado, Boulder, as a special edition of Colorado Quarterly (Volume XXVI, No. 1). The Images of Floyd Rudolf Peterson, a slim 124-page volume, was the First Annual $1000 Colorado Quarterly Award. More about Floyd’s book and his “half-cocked vision of the world” at this link. Copies occasionally turn up online or in used book shops.

a new home for floyd’s vision

Floyd Rudolf Peterson was born in Victor, Colorado, in 1908 and was an artist in all he pursued. The original version of this site was created in 1999 to share a sample of his eclectic, diverse work in many media. Floyd died in April 2000, but left us a legacy of charming, provocative, strange, and completely creative images in his enormous collection of drawings, sculptures, poems, and stories.

We hope you will enjoy the gallery of his work here and join us in marveling at his “exceptional literary and artistic talent.” Rarely recognized during his life, his talent was nurtured mostly in solitude, and he was a personality who shied away from kudos.
