In 1977, samples of Floyd’s poems, short pieces, and bizarre drawings were published by the University of Colorado, Boulder, as a special edition of Colorado Quarterly (Volume XXVI, No. 1). The Images of Floyd Rudolf Peterson, a slim 124-page volume, was the First Annual $1000 Colorado Quarterly Award.
Whether the little book enjoyed any critical success we do not know, but at least for a brief time, Floyd found himself in the spotlight.
“I’m enchanted [with this award], of course, but I’ve never had a silly thing like this happen before. All this goofy notoriety that has come my way lately. I don’t know how to deal with it. So I just ignore it.”
